have joined the investigation into the massacre at a connecticut elementary school. the state medical examiner has asked them to do a complete analysis of gunman adam lanza it's dna. they're not looking for anything specific and the results are not expected for several weeks. some experts say it's not likely scientists will find a genetic clue as to what motivated him to kill 27 people in newtown on december 14. the debate over guns in america will take center stage in fairfax county today. members of the group code pink plans to rally this afternoon outside a gun show at the dulles expo center in chantilly. organizers: fabricating four assault weapons ban and for background checks of people who by weapons at gun shows. an effort to train teachers to use guns so they can confront the assailants is under way in utah. nearly 200 teachers took a free gun training courses offered by the state was the leading gun lobby. there were taught how to safely carry a concealed weapon on the job and to protect our schools from an armed intruder. >> safety is the biggest part. to be able to use them

of massachusetts, connecticut and the state of rhode island could look at over six inches of snow with areas possibly seeing a foot of snow. so again the chance of seeing more snow from this next storm system is increasing here. it is pulling in a lot of moisture from the gulf of mexico. that is one of the reasons why we think we could see a little more than originally anticipated. right now it is producing snow across areas in chicago, northern parts of the state of indiana that into michigan. on the southern end of the storm system we have showers and thunderstorms in louisiana, mississippi and tennessee. eventually both of these areas will be coming together and moving towards the northeast. i do quickly want to point out between these areas we're actually seeing freezing rain falling early this morning across places in arkansas and northern texas. please drive carefully out there. that is outside the city of memphis as well. western portions of state of tennessee dealing with possible icing on the roadways. otherwise a number of winter weather advisories issued for the state of new jerse

in connecticut is fresh on everybody's minds. what were your biggest stories of the year? >> it feels so obvious, but i think the presidential election has to be on the list. something that we all followed very, very closely. so much happened. the debates were obviously interesting, covering the convention. it happens once every four years. incredibly consequential. i think it says a lot about what presidential elections will look like. we learned a lot about the changing demographics of this country. >> exactly. looking forward to the inauguration coming up in the new year. i think for all of us, i think around here certainly we've covered superstorm sandy. this was such a tragic event. i mean, a storm like this has not been seen here in this -- for centuries. i think that, you know, obviously the devastating effects that it continues to have on so many areas from the rockaways to new york to connecticut and long island. i was up in the helicopter. seeing that devastation first hand, when you see the scope of it, it's just enormous. >> this year was marked by a lot of tragedy from aurora, bengh

to all the people in newtown, connecticut. this was an horrific series of events. second of all, the major problem that i have as a geneticist is that it's impossible to gain much information with the sample size of one. so what you are looking at is one person's dna, and you're trying to say that it's different than other people. but you only have a sample size of one. >> would it be helpful, do you think, to look at the dna of other shooters of those from previous mass shootings? >> well, again, the problem is, we have probably less than five or even ten people that we're talking about. when studies -- accurate genetic studies are done on a whole population, we look for hundreds of different people, and you have to show a strong correlation with that. and the second problem would be what are we trying to look for? i mean, we're going -- the whole idea is you're going in with the notion of looking for something. and that is simply not the way science is done. science is done where you go in expecting things to be the same. we have a hypothesis. and then you try to disprove or p
